Glossy Floors recently installed a polished concrete razorback in a concrete slab for a customer in Bentonville, Arkansas. Not only was this particular slab the worst we had ever seen, it was almost next to impossible to polish.
According to the concrete company that finished the slab, concrete was delivered in intervals of 1 1/2 – 2 hours in between trucks. With the sun already beating down, this makes for an extremely rough job. To make matters worse, they indicate the concrete had little to no “cream” to aid in producing a proper finish. We’ve seen it happen before, and the concrete company usually does an excellent job finishing concrete.
Regardless, a polished concrete razorback was added to the concrete slab at the owners request. Not only a huge Arkansas Razorback fan, but also wanting to help with the aesthetics of the slab, he asked for a polished concrete razorback that was around 10 feet long… That’s exactly what he got and he absolutely loves it! The finished dimensions are roughly 9 1/2′ x 4′.
Pictured below, we’ve applied the Arkansas Razorback logo that will create the polished concrete razorback with a stencil and started painstakingly staining the black outline. This was actually the easy part. If you notice behind me, you’ll see that we have yet another stencil that’s supposed to go over the one that we’re currently staining on. We ended up not using it. Trying to align a stencil that large proved to be impossible in 30 mph winds.
In order to appreciate just how beautiful this slab turned out, it’s a good idea to show you what we started with.
Now it’s on to the good stuff!
In the picture below, we’ve just gone over the polished concrete razorback with our 800 grit resin diamonds. The next step is our 1500 resin diamonds and then our 3000 resin diamonds. That’s a lot of diamonds!
The pictures below show the completed project. The polished concrete razorback was polished to a 3000 grit polish. A stain guard or stain protector is added to make sure the color is locked in place.
