Installing polished concrete floors in a high school is always fun for the Glossy Floors crews. The Mountain Home High School was looking for a company that could come in and polish the floors quick enough that they could still have time to paint, replace ceiling tiles, etc.
The floor was originally poured in the 1950’s which makes for a pretty old floor. It’s not the oldest floor we’ve worked with, but nonetheless, it’s pretty old.
After pouring the concrete, they put tile over the whole thing and called it good. When it was tiled, they used asbestos, so a removal team had the come in and remove the asbestos before we could get started.
It took about a week and a half to remove the asbestos and tile, but they did an excellent job.

Glossy Floors came in with our crew and started working the floor. During the first few minutes, we could tell the floor was extra soft. After making a few adjustments, we were off and running.
With a total of 16 classrooms and 2 closets, the floor was ground down, stained, densified and polished to a high shine in about 6 days.
Because the concrete was so soft in 3 of the rooms, we had to grout the floor before we could ever even begin to start polishing the floor. Without the grout, the floor wouldn’t have had a shine at all.
